About Us
As an International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) founding chapter, the Washington Metropolitan Area (WMA) supports INCOSE members in the Washington DC., and the Northern Virginia areas (North into West Virginia, South to Spotsylvania, and West down to the Blacksburg area. Our chapter area is home to many of the federal departments and independent agencies acquiring systems for the US Government as well as many leading high-technology commercial firms that consider systems engineering a competitive advantage, Since its inception, the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter has been a leader in the systems engineering community, especially in the Federal sector.
We are one of largest U.S. based INCOSE chapters, with over 850 active members. We are very active and strive to serve our membership by providing a variety of services and training opportunities. We have monthly meetings in the Northern Virginia area where we present and discuss on a variety of issues of interest to our membership.
In 1993, the chapter sponsored the second international INCOSE Symposium (IS) in Arlington, Virginia, In 2003, we sponsored the 13th IS in Crystal City, Virginia, and in 2018 we sponsored the 28th IS in Washington DC. Many of the most influential leaders and thinkers in the systems engineering community participate in our Chapter.
Our mission is to promote the advancement of systems engineering for the students, members, practitioners, and stakeholders in the Washington DC Metropolitan through communication, collaboration and engagement.
